Flow Cytometry

Flow Cytometry

The Bauer Core Facility houses a Flow Cytometry Core where we provide users with cell sorters, analyzers, and particle counters through a mix of self-use and staff-run service.

For more information, see our list of instrumentation and fees.

New to the Core or Need Training?

For inquiries about a new sorting projects or to be trained on our instruments, please email the Flow Core Staff.

Analyzers

The Core as two traditional BD analyzers, the 4 laser LSR Fortessa and the 5 laser FAC Symphony A3. These instruments analyze cells and particles stained with different fluorophores. We also have a 5 laser Cytek Aurora spectral analyzer which collects emissions within a range for each fluorochrome to detect its unique “fingerprint”.

Sorters

The Core provides several cell sorters depending on your cell type. The 7-laser Beckman Coulter MoFlo Astrios and 4-laser MoFlo XDP are staff-run instruments equipped to sort BL2 material. Each instrument has an available nozzle size of 100um. The BD FACS Arias each have 5 lasers, but different configurations allow them to handle different fluorophores. While both instruments are equipped for BL2 material, only mammalian samples are allowed on Aria #2. Both Arias are available for staff-run service or independent self-run use after the appropriate training. Available nozzle sizes range from 70- 100um.

Cells can be sorted into:

  • Microcentrifuge tubes
  • 96 well plates
  • 15 mL Falcon tubes
  • 50 mL Falcon tubes
  • 5 mL FACS tubes
